6,046 fresh cases, 226 deaths in UP

State conducts 3,06,548 Covid tests in a day, including over 1,30,000 RT-PCR tests

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh reported 6,046 fresh Covid cases on Saturday, taking the total case count to 16,65,176. The death toll in the state touched 18,978 with 226 fresh fatalities.

“Uttar Pradesh has achieved another benchmark by conducting 3,06,548 Covid tests in one day, including over 1,30,000 RT PCR tests and the remaining TrueNat and antigen tests. UP is the first state to test over 3 lakh samples in one day,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical health in a press conference on Saturday.

Till now, the state has tested 46419134 Covid samples. Apart from the results that had come, over 118000 samples had been sent to the labs for RT PCR test in the past 24 hours, said Prasad.

During the day, Gorakhpur reported maximum 755 fresh Covid cases, Lucknow 291, Kanpur 74, Varanasi 231, Meerut 421, Ghaziabad 187, Saharanpur 195 andAgra 54. Lucknow reported 21 deaths, Mainpuri and Varanasi 14 each, Gorakhpur 12, Kanpur 10 and Agra 9, according to the data from the state health department.

“Till now, Lucknow has reported 236188 Covid cases of which 227795 have recovered and the recovery rate is 96.44,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Association of International Doctors.

Till now 15,51,716 patients have recovered in state and the recovery rate in Uttar Pradesh is 93.20%. There are 34785 containment zones in the state.
