Sacked home guard arrested for beating teen to death

Head injuries above the right ear the cause of boy’s death, according to postmortem report; Bangarmau SHO removed

A sacked home guard jawan who, along with two police constables was accused of beating a 17-yearold boy to death for violating the Covid-19 curbs in the Bangarmau area of Unnao district was arrested, the police said on Sunday. According to the post-mortem report that HT has accessed, head injuries above the right ear were the reason for the boy’s death. Police constables Vijay Choudhury and Simavat and home guard Satyapraka­sh were booked on the charge of murder for allegedly beating up the boy, a vegetable vendor, first outside his house in Bhatpuri and then at the police station on Friday.

KANPUR : A sacked home guard jawan who, along with two police constables was accused of beating a 17-year-old boy to death for violating the Covid-19 curbs in the Bangarmau area of Unnao district, was arrested, the police said on Sunday.

According to the post-mortem report that HT has accessed, head injuries above the right ear were the reason for the boy’s death.

Police constables Vijay Choudhury and Simavat and home guard Satyapraka­sh were booked on the charge of murder for allegedly beating up the boy, a vegetable vendor, first outside his house in Bhatpuri and then at the police station on Friday.

In a related developmen­t, Unnao superinten­dent of police Anand Kulkarni removed Bangarmau station house officer Jitendra Singh from his post on Sunday evening for hiding the facts and shielding the accused in the case.

“One accused has been arrested, while efforts are on to nab the other two,” Kulkarni said.

The investigat­ion had been handed over to the Unnao crime branch, he added.

“The matter is being probed by the crime branch and they are collecting evidence. Action will be initiated against the guilty persons,” he said.

The police booked the three security personnel following a protest by the locals after the boy’s death.

The post-mortem report said head injuries above the right ear were the main reason for the boy’s death, while there were 14 injury marks on his body.

The family members of the boy alleged that he was beaten up at the police station in front of inspector Jitendra Singh.

The agitating family members and their neighbours had handed over the boy’s body for post-mortem after senior police officials assured the family of legal action against the accused and gave a copy of the FIR to them after lodging the murder case.

District magistrate Ravindra Kumar and SP Kulkarni met the family members on Sunday night and assured tough action against the two constables and the home guard.
