: Several English medium schools here have pledged to provide up to full fee waiver to many students who lost either of their parents or both due to Covid-19.

A number of private schools’ associations comprising the owners, principals and managers met deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma on Sunday to make an announcement in this regard before him. Sharma expressed his happiness over this initiative taken by the schools. A number of private school associations, including the Unaided Private Schools Association, UP, and others expressed concern for students who lost either of their parents and in some cases both of them. They assured that the schools will give maximum fee waiver to such children so that they may continue their education till class 12. La Martiniere Girls’ College (LMGC) is among the schools that have come forward. “Maximum discounts up to free ship, if the mother is not working, and the father has passed on,” said LMGC principal Aashrita Dass.

At St Teresa’s College in Aashiana, those students who have lost their father or mother will be given 50% fee concession till the time the child studies in the school.

The idea was initiated by Pushplata Agrawal, founderchairperson of the St Joseph group of Institution, Lucknow who first announced that any child who has lost both parents to Covid-19 will get free education in all the branches of St Joseph.

Hoerner College principal Mala Mehra said, “If both parents succumbed to Covid-19, the child will be given 100% freeship and in case the father passed away, we will provide 50% concession.”

Sharmila Singh of Pioneer Montessori School said, “If any student has lost the father, then we will definitely help with 50% fee waiver and if the child lost both parents, the child would get 100% scholarship.”
