Yaas approaches eastern coast
LUCKNOW As Cyclone Yaas approaches the Odisha coastline, lashing the state with heavy rainfall, a forecast issued by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Uttar Pradesh said that the cyclone will also cause rain in several parts of eastern UP in the coming days, on Monday. Following the forecast based on the predicted progression of the cyclone, the state meteorological department has alerted district administrations concerned about the possibility of rain.
As per the IMD forecast, at least 15 districts of the eastern UP will experience rain in the next 48 hours, due to weather conditions caused by cyclone. The number of affected districts will increase by the weekend. The rain will move from east to western parts of district as cyclone moves away, experts said. JP Gupta, director, state MeT department, said, “The weather conditions caused by Yaas will be countered by western disturbances before it reaches Uttar Pradesh. So we are expecting a reduced impact.”
Several parts of the state including the state capital Lucknow experienced heavy rains and thunderstorms last week caused by the coupling of Cyclone Tauktae and western disturbances. Considering the recent forecast, the administration in over 20 east UP districts have been asked to keep an eye on the changing weather conditions and take steps to reduce damage caused by adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, hot weather returned to UP with mercury touching 40-degree Celsius mark again on Monday. Lucknow recorded the maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius.
