GETTING ANTI-FUNGAL DRUG A CHALLENGE, SAY DOCS

-

PRAYAGRAJ : Prayagraj has so far reported one death due to black fungus and eight cases, of which six are undergoing treatment at the SRN Hospital. The deceased was a doctor who could not be saved despite being shifted to the SGPGIMS in Lucknow., said officials.

Dr Sujeet Verma, nodal officer of corona ward at SRNH, informed that a suspected case of black fungus was among those admitted to the hospital on Monday. “With this new case, the total count of black fungus cases has gone up to six at SRN Hospital,” he added.

Doctors conceded that getting amphotericin-B, an anti-fungal drug used for treatment of the black fungus, is a challenge. As a result, while medical colleges are getting it through the DGME-Lucknow, the process is cumbersome for the common man.

“UP government has divided 18 divisions of the state in pairs. Prayagraj has been paired with Kanpur. Patients in private hospitals can also get the medicine by giving applications to divisional commissioner, Kanpur,” said Mohanji Srivastava, addl director (health)-Prayagraj .
