LUCKNOW: Days after alleging that several state ministers deputed to monitor Covid situation in various UP districts had gone missing, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday questioned chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s ongoing visits there.

“At a time when people are dying of Covid, black fungus, white fungus, lack of medicines, injections, vaccines, the chief minister instead of working to improve the deteriorating situation is busy in marathon tours. What is the relevance of these tours? They are mere wastage of government’s time and resources,” he said in a statement. The fresh attack by Akhilesh came on the day when the CM visited the former’s Lok Sabha constituency Azamgarh. “No one knows where the Team-9 or Team-11 constituted by the CM is,” said the former chief minister.

After visiting several western UP districts including Gautam Buddh Nagar and Muzaffarnagar last week, The chief minister on Monday undertook tours to Gonda, Azamgarh and Varanasi districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Before this on Saturday and Sunday, Yogi visited Etawah, Kanpur, Jhansi and Banda districts. “He (CM) is touring the state not for improving things but for achieving his own political goals. But the political goal won’t be fulfilled in 2022 assembly polls,” Yadav said.

“The CM should also tell when only 35 lakh people have been given the second dose of vaccine, how does he claim that all people in the state will be inoculated by Diwali?” A large number of youths and elderly visit hospital but return without vaccination,” he claimed.

“The pandemic situation in villages is very bad and people are dying without treatment,” alleged Yadav while listing several villages facing a grim Covid situation. He also asked what the CM was doing to meet the shortage of resources in antiCovid centres to tackle next wave of the pandemic.
