In what could give relief to dependents of primary school teachers who die during service, the department has made amendments in the rules for appointments on compassionate grounds.

As per new rules, dependents who have B Ed/ DL Ed (formerly BTC) and Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) degree holders would be appointed as primary school teachers while those who have not qualified for TET but are eligible for class III appointment would be appointed even if there are no vacant posts under the above categories.

Basic education minister Satish Chand Dwivedi on Monday said that earlier the dependents of the basic education staff who did not qualify for Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) but were highly educated were forced to give their services in class IV category as there were no vacancies in class III category.

This procedure was not in accordance with their qualifications.

The minister said keeping this in mind those who are eligible will be compensated on additional posts even if there were no vacancies.
