Anti-human trafficking units to be established in 40 more UP districts
The UP government ordered establishment of Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTU) in around 40 districts of the state in October 2020. In the letter to the district magistrates, additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi said in 2011 and 2016, too, the government had ordered AHTUs in 35 districts. Now all 75 districts would have AHTUs. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the department of women and child welfare to prepare a comprehensive work plan for such children and compile a detailed list of affected children.
Manoj Rai, director, department of women and child development, UP said, “The state government has decided to tweak rules of the scheme as it mandated to assist only two children of a family. Now, all affected children of a family will be provided financial assistance even if they are more than two.”
