CM’s meeting with governor sparks speculatio­ns

UP governor Anandiben Patel and chief minister Yogi Adityanath returned to Lucknow on Thursday hours after each other and then met in the evening, sparking speculatio­ns regarding possible changes in the government or a cabinet reshuffle.

However, there have not been any confirmati­ons on the discussion­s that took place during the nearly 50-minute meeting Patel and Adityanath had at Raj Bhawan. The speculatio­ns were outcome of a recent high-level meeting of the BJP’s top brass, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in New Delhi. The Delhi meeting had triggered discussion­s in the political circles about changes in the state party unit and also in the government ahead of the 2022 assembly polls in the state.

Patel returned to Lucknow after her Madhya Pradesh tour while Adityanath was away to various districts for the last four days. Patel holds additiona charge of MP governor. The chief minister’s office called it “a courtesy call” by Adityanath. The last time the two met was in February.
