Friday fatalities: 159 in UP, 9 in Lucknow

With 159 fresh fatalities, the death toll in Uttar Pradesh reached 20,053 on Friday while Covid tally reached 16,86,138.

Of the total deaths, maximum 12 were reported from Agra, 10 from Meerut, 9 from Jhansi and Lucknow, 8 from Etah and 7 from Prayagraj.

The recovery rate in the state is now 95.7%, while there were 52,244 active cases, which included 38,055 patients who were in home isolation, additional chief secretary (health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.

Lucknow reported 172 new cases, Saharanpur 154, Meerut 121, Gorakhpur 116, Varanasi 89, Ghaziabad 94, Muzaffarnagar 74 and Gautam Buddh Nagar 53 on Friday.

So far, 4.84 crore samples have been tested for Covid-19 in the state of which over 3.58 lakh were examined in the last 24 hours.

In Lucknow, 172 fresh cases were reported. In all nine deaths were also reported on Friday.

“Till now, Lucknow has reported 23,7,327 Covid cases and of them 23,1343 have recovered. The recovery rate in Lucknow is 97.47%,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, association of international doctors. During the day, 584 patients recovered in Lucknow, said officials.
