AMU students told to vacate hostels amid Covid scare

AGRA: Keeping in view the safety of its students due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Aligarh Muslim University has asked the students to vacate the hostels and return to their homes.

A decision in this regard was taken during an online meeting of Provosts of Halls of Residence and other university officials, chaired by the vice chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor, on Thursday.

A separate letter will be sent by the Provost concerned to the parents of the bonafide students, who are still residing in the hostels, to ensure that their ward vacates the hostel and return to their respective homes.

The letter will be sent through email and also by post to the parents.

This is necessary to ensure safety of students’ health in wake of the pandemic.

At present, the teaching is being conducted via online mode at the university while the scheduled examinatio­ns too will be held in online mode.

It has also been decided during the meeting that Provosts concerned will take steps for maintenanc­e of Reading Rooms, Common Rooms, and Lawns of their respective Halls during the period.

University Proctor too has been advised to direct his team members and the security staff to remain vigilant for maintainin­g security of the campus, especially, at the entry points of University Library and Cultural Education Centre.

During the meeting, V-C also appealed to the staff members for vaccinatio­n against Covid-19. All the head of officers/ department­s/faculties too have been advised to motivate their staff to register themselves for the vaccinatio­n of Covid-19 on CoWin App and get themselves vaccinated at the earliest.
