‘State govt committed to looking after kids orphaned due to Covid’

THIS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS IN ADDITION TO OTHER STEPS TAKEN BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR REHABILITA­TION OF SUCH CHILDREN

LUCKNOW : Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma on Sunday stated that both the Centre and the state government were committed to rehabilita­tion of children whio had been left orphan after their parents died of Covid.

The Centre has committed free education and medical facilities for such children.

“The central government has announced monthly financial assistance for such children after they attain the age of 18 years and Rs 10 lakh at the age of 23 years,” said Dinesh Sharma in a statement issued here on Sunday.

On state government’s scheme for these children, the deputy chief minister said: “The state government has launched ‘Uttar Pradesh Mukhmantri Bal Sewa Yojana’ for children who have lost either both their parents in the Covid-19 pandemic or any parent (father or mother) who was an earning member of the family or a legal guardian.”

“Under this scheme Covid orphaned children will get financial assistance of Rs 4000 per month. Every such child who is 18 years and below and has lost his/her parents in the Covid-19 pandemic will be entitled to it till they become adult or become self-reliant,” said Sharma.

This financial assistance is in addition to other steps taken by the government for rehabilita­tion of such children, he added.

Sharma has also issued an appeal to make people aware of this scheme so that all those who are entitled could avail its benefit.
