2 PVT HOSPS START MONOCLONAL ANTIBODY THERAPY

-

Two private hospitals started monoclonal antibody treatment for Covid-19 patients in the state capital on Sunday.

The first patient to receive the therapy was admitted to Medanta Hospital and the other patient at the Apollomedics Hospital. Dr Rakesh Kapoor, director of Medanta Hospital (Lucknow), said the hospital had administered monoclonal antibody treatment for the first time in UP to a patient who was in the early stages of Covid-19.

Since there was no reaction, early recovery of the patient from Covid is expected.

Dr Mayank Somani, CEO & managing director of Apollomedics Hospital, said this was also known as Trump Cocktail. (The then US President Donald Trump was said to have received this treatment when he tested Covid-19 positive last year. He was back at work within a week after taking this therapy). “The therapy blocks multiplication of the virus and thus provides time for the body to develop immunity,” Dr Somani said.

Patients with comorbidity and those over 65 years of age can use this therapy.
