Man held for posing as Hindu, forcibly marrying Lko woman

LUCKNOW : An Azamgarh man identified as Abid Hawari was arrested by Lucknow police on Sunday for allegedly exploiting a Lucknow woman physically by posing as a Hindu and then marrying her forcibly, said senior police officials.

The cops also said the accused even extracted ₹15 lakh from the woman, a Hindu, while posing as a police inspector of crime branch in Lucknow police by threatenin­g her to make her personal videos viral.

Assistant commission­er of police (ACP), Ghazipur police circle, SK Sharma said the FIR was lodged in this connection on the complaint of the woman on Saturday and the accused was arrested from his rented flat in Sushant Golf City here on Sunday.

As per ACP Sharma, Abid, aged around 35, developed physical relations with the woman living in a residentia­l colony under Indira Nagar police limits by introducin­g himself as one Aditya Singh and later married her forcibly in 2017.

He said the accused was already married and that his first wife and seven children lived in Azamgarh while he stayed at a rented flat in Lucknow.

The ACP said the accused was booked under Sections 3/5 (1) of UP Prohibitio­n of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, Sections 3/4/6 of Prohibitio­n of Indecent Presentati­on Act as well as Sections 406 (for criminal breach of trust), 420 (for fraud), 376 (for rape), 494 (for bigamy) and 506 (for criminal intimidati­on) of the Indian Penal Code.

Sharing further details, inspector, Indira Nagar police station, Ajay Prakash Tripathi said the investigat­ion revealed that Abid married another Lucknow woman in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, in February this year. He said the complainan­t had informed the police that she approached the police nearly three years after being duped when she came to know about the third marriage of the accused recently.

He said the complainan­t, who operated a boutique and a girls’ hostel, stated the accused first met her while posing as an inspector of crime branch Aditya Singh in 2016.

He said the accused first developed physical relations with her and then married her forcibly by converting her religion when she came to know about his religious identity in 2017.

He said the accused renamed the woman as Ayesha after marrying her. The inspector said the police had recovered multiple identity proofs of the accused with different Hindu Muslim names.
