10 new black fungus cases in Lko, 3 deaths
: Three more patients of black fungus (mucormycosis) succumbed in the state capital, while 10 fresh cases were admitted at the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Monday.
A 45-year-old man from Lakhimpur Kheri, a 53-year-old man from Kushinagar and a 67-year-old man from Gonda died during treatment, said Dr Sudhir Singh, spokesperson KGMU. The scarcity of Amphotericin B, used to treat mucormycosis, continued in the state capital as only 50 more vials of the life-saving injection were distributed against the demand of 1200 vials by the Indian Red Cross Society of Lucknow.
A total of over 600 vials of the injection have been distributed since May 20. The Red Cross Society is distributing injections to the patients admitted at the private hospitals while those at government hospitals get injections from there.
The chairman of the society Om Prakash Pathak said, “We distributed 50 vials to eight beneficiaries while about attendants of 60 patients need the injection.”
