MAN DROWNS IN WELL DURING BID TO RECOVER JEWELLERY OF NEIGHBOUR

LUCKNOW: A man drowned in a well while attempting to trace jewellery thrown by his neighbour’s wife after an altercatio­n in Nagram locality, Lucknow on Monday. Divers and fire department personnel recovered the body from the well.

Additional commission­er of police Praveen Malik said, “One Narendra Singh of village Bahauli got drowned in a well on Monday. According to villagers and his family members, he had entered the well to recover jewellery thrown by his neighbour’s wife.” Police said on Sunday Singh’s neighbour Nand Kishore had an argument with his wife who in a fit of rage threw some of her jewellery inside the well located near the house. “On Sunday evening, Nand Kishore asked Narender and one Suraj of the same village to help recover the jewellery and promised to pay them Rs 2000 if they did so. Narendra’s wife Karma Devi informed us that Narendra and Suraj entered the well before villagers but were unable to recover jewellery,” police said.
