2 LABOURERS DIE AFTER BUILDING COLLAPSES IN KV CORRIDOR AREA

Two labourers died while six others were injured when a portion of an abandoned building collapsed in Kashi Vishwanath corridor area in the wee hours here on Tuesday.

Prime Minisiter Narendra Modi spoke to divisional commission­er of Varanasi Deepak Agarwal and district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma during the day and took stock of the situation.

He expressed grief over the lives lost. Modi instructed the officials to provide all possible help to the families of the two labourers who died in the incident. He said that best treatment should be provided to the injured labourers.

VARANASI: Two labourers died while six others were injured when a portion of an abandoned building collapsed in Kashi Vishwanath corridor area in the wee hours here on Tuesday.

Modi instructed the officials to provide all possible help to the families of the two labourers who died in the incident. He said that best treatment should be provided to the injured labourers.

According to a senior official of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the labourers were taking rest in the vicinity of the building. All of a sudden, a portion of the building collapsed in which eight labourers got trapped under the debris. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel were pressed into rescue and relief operation after the incident.

All the eight injured labourers were rushed to the divisional hospital, where two of them succumbed to their injuries during treatment. They were identified as Abaul Momin (25) and Aminul Momin (45), residents of Shershahi village in Kalia Chak police station in Malda of West Bengal. Their kin have been informed about the incident, the official said.

The seven labourers who suffered injuries include Imran, Arif Momin, Shahid Akhtar, Sakiul Momin and Hakim Khan, all from Malda in West Bengal. They were discharged from the hospital after primary treatment. However, Abdul Jabbar, who suffered serious injuries, is still under treatment at divisional hospital.

One of the injurerd labourers Arif Momin said that they worked as constructi­on workers at Kashi Vishwanath Corridor. “After finishing our shift in the night, all of us were sleeping near the building as the weather was too hot. In the wee hours, a portion of the building suddenly collapsed, and we were trapped,” he said.

Shri Kashi Vishwanath Special area Deveolpmen­t Board and Kashi Vishwanath Temple chief executive officer Sunil Verma said that a compensati­on of Rs 5 lakh (Rs 3 lakh by PSP constructi­on company and Rs 2 lakh by Kashi Vishwanath Temple administra­tion) has been announced to each of the families of both the deceased. Likewise, a compensati­on of Rs 50,000 (Rs 25,000 by PSP Company and Rs 25,000 lakh by Kashi Vishwanath Temple administra­tion) will be given to each of the six injured.

He said that postmortem of the two bodies was being done and the bodies would be sent to their native place.
