PLANTATION DRIVE: DMS ASKED TO IDENTIFY LAND BY JUNE 15

LUCKNOW : Chief secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari has asked district magistrate­s (DMs) to identify land for this year’s plantation drive and also make the requiremen­t of the plants available to the district forest officers (DFOs) by June 15. The drive will begin in the first week of July.

Holding a virtual meeting with DMs and other officials on Monday, he said that the government had fixed this year’s plantation target at 30 crore plants in the state. He directed officials to make all prior arrangemen­ts like identifica­tion of land, procuremen­t of plants etc to achieve the target.

Tiwari asked DMs to immediatel­y convene the meetings of plantation committees to give final shape to the drive. He said DMs and commission­ers must hold weekly and fortnightl­y meetings respective­ly to review preparatio­ns and progress.

He said plantation had to be done in cow shelters as well and asked commission­ers and DMs to issue detailed plantation guidelines to the officials concerned.

The CS said next Monday he will hold a virtual meeting with DMs to review preparatio­ns for the drive.
