A city-based doctor Sandip Jaiswal was shot at by two brothers Mohd Rashid and Amir Chowdhary in Chinhat area last week because they felt that doctor’s negligence led to the death of their Covid-19 infected elder brother Khalid admitted to his hospital, said senior police officials here on Wednesday.

They said the two brothers had been arrested along with a pistol and a SUV used to execute the crime on the night of May 27.

Dr Jaiswal, who had suffered bullet wound in his head, is still critical and undergoing treatment in the trauma centre of King George Medical University (KGMU) for last one week.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) of Vibhuti Khand police circle, Praveen Malik said Khalid, the elder brother of the two accused, was familiar with the victim doctor and got admitted at Harshit hospital in Sarvodaya Nagar after getting infected with Covid-19 on April 27.

He said Khalid’s condition deteriorated and later shifted to another private hospital where he succumbed to the infection on May 8.

He said the two accused were holding Dr Jaiswal responsible for Khalid’s death and have decided to take revenge of their elder brother’s death.

“The two accused were following the doctor’s movement for past two weeks and attacked him after intercepting his SUV near his house near Matiyari in Chinhat. The duo first attacked him with bricks and shoot him with the pistol,” he emphasised.

He said the two accused alleged during interrogation that their elder brother died due to negligence of Dr Jaiswal who did not give him proper treatment despite their multiple requests.

He said the two accused are residents of Meerut and stayed here in a rented house in Indira Nagar locality.

The duo has been booked under attempt to murder and for carrying as well as using illegal weapon.
