Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Umesh Dwivedi has written to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding release of Khushi Dubey, widow of Amar Dubey, the sharpshooter of gangster Vikas Dubey of the infamous Bikru incident, who was later killed in a police encounter near Kanpur.

“It has been nearly 10 months (11 months) since the Bikru incident took place and the police have still not been able to frame charges on Khushi Dubey who is currently ill and admitted to a private hospital while in custody,” the BJP MLC has said in his letter.

This is the second time the BJP MLC, who also heads a body of Brahmins, has written to the chief minister seeking relief for Khushi.

Khushi was lodged in Barabanki jail when she complained of pain in her heart and weakness.

She was admitted to the district hospital but when her condition didn’t improve, she was referred to Lucknow and admitted to a private hospital. After the Bikru shoot-out in which eight policemen were killed by Vikas Dubey and his aides on July 2, 2020, the police had gunned down several of Vikas’s aides, including his sharpshooter Amar Dubey, in encounters a few days after he had married Khushi.

On July 10, Vikas Dubey too was killed in an encounter with the police.

“I have merely requested the chief minister to intervene in the case and if no charges have been framed on Khushi so far, she should be released,” the BJP MLC said.
