UP plans to have its own cultural policy
LUCKNOW: The state government plans to have its own cultural policy and convert Bhatkhande Music Institute into a State Cultural University. At present, the Bhatkhande Music Institute is deemed to be a university.
In a virtual meeting held on Thursday, Mukesh Meshram, principal secretary, culture and tourism, said: “The cultural policy must be job-oriented and must reflect the tradition and culture of every district, including food, dress, and sports. It must also promote cultural practices which are on the verge of extension.
“The proposed policy must also have a provision of subsidy and incentive for promotion of institutions and organisations working for the promotion of culture,” he asserted.
It was also decided in the meeting to seek suggestions for framing the cultural policy and finalise it in the next 15 days.
During the meeting, it was also decided to convert the Bhatkhande Music Institute into State Cultural University that will have all courses, including classical dance, vocal, acting, fine arts and other subjects.
