NER completes electrification of 2287km long route
LUCKNOW : As Railways sets its target to be a net-zero carbon emitter by 2030, the North Eastern Railways (NER) is leaving no stone unturned in contributing their bit by carrying out electrification of the routes on a warfooting.
Often referred to as the ‘Chhoti line’, NER which until 2014-2015 had only 24km of its route electrified, has now completed the electrification of its 2287km long route. “We are done with the electrification of 2287km long route at present that is 73 per cent of the total broad-gauge route that comes under the jurisdiction of NER,” said Pankaj Kumar Singh, chief public relation officer (CPRO), NER. Singh said in the last two years—2019-2020 and 2020-2021, NER managed to grab second place in entire Indian Railways in terms of route electrification.
“Such massive electrification work has not only taken the development to another height but has also reduced the carbon emission to the great extent,” said Singh.
