After science, now LU arts faculty board drops CMS proposal

-

: The proposal to implement the common minimum syllabus (CMS) designed for higher educational institutes as per the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, in Lucknow University (LU) was unanimously dropped in the board meeting of arts faculty of the university on Friday. This comes a week after the proposal was dropped in the board meeting of science faculty.

“The arts faculty board meeting was held to discuss the proposal of adopting the CMS. The board members decided to drop the proposal following discussions terming it not at par with the existing syllabus,” said Vineet Verma of Lucknow University Teachers’ Association (LUTA). According to teachers present in the meeting, the option of adopting the CMS with 30% content of their own was also discussed in detail but most members were of the opinion that “the CMS cannot be adopted even then.”

The teachers of the university have been opposing the implementation after the higher education department of the state in April directed all state universities to include at least 70% content of the CMS with relaxation to include 30 % content of their own. As per plans, the CMS was to be cleared by all state universities so that it could be implemented in the upcoming academic session.
