MAGYARS’ TRIAL BY FIRE
The once-mighty Magyars had topped a group featuring eventual champions Portugal at Euro 2016, on what was their return to the main stages of the competition after 44 years. They are back again after qualifying in the most dramatic way. Trailing Iceland in their play-off final till the 88th minute, a four-minute blitz saw them secure a 2-1 win and a place at the Euros. Hungary will have to negotiate this group without injured star Dominik Szoboszlai, who scored the winner against Iceland.
The only advantage for the Marco Rossi-coached side is that they will play two of their three games—against Portugal and France—at home in Budapest.
