“Gandhi Gram is among the most backward villages in Lucknow. So after having a detailed discussion about the situation of the village, we have decided to take measures to bring the people close to the mainstream. We have named this mission ‘Kayakalp’,” said Chaturvedi who was earlier SP of Barabanki.

“It has been decided to provide employment to as many men and women of the village in private sector as possible, provide them the available government help to them set up their businesses, impart required technical training for specialised jobs and develop self-help groups,” he added.

The announcement was made during an event held in the village on Sunday. Ummeed Foundation will also collect data of young people of the village which can be shared with local municipal bodies. During his previous posting in Barabanki, Chaturvedi had set up a self-help group for people living in villages worst affected by illicit liquor trade. The villagers there were trained in beekeeping and making products of bee wax.

In Sultanpur, the officer has been involved in bringing about concrete changes in least developed pockets. He has helped over 45 people from a tribal village there in getting jobs at various places.
