‘90% of Purvanchal Expressway work complete’

LUCKNOW: Chief executive officer of UP Expressway­s Industrial Developmen­t Authority (UPEIDA) Awanish Awasthi on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the Purvanchal Expressway and instructed officials to complete the project within the stipulated time frame.

The 340-km expressway will start from the state capital and will end in Ghazipur in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Several railway-over-bridges (ROBs) are also coming up along this expressway.

In a virtual meeting, Awasthi instructed engineers to complete the work within the deadline of October this year.

Official apprised Awasthi that 90% physical work of the project has been completed.

They also informed that 99 percent of the work related with flyovers and ROBs has also been completed.

The expressway would traverse through nine districts of the state, including Lucknow, Barabanki, Faizabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Amethi, Sultanpur, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

Apart from this, the expressway would also connect important cities like Varanasi, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur and Allahabad through link roads.

The expressway will also have a three-km long runway at Kudebhar in Sultanpur district. This runway has been proposed for landing and take-off of fighter jets of Indian Air Force during an emergency situation.

Counted among most prestigiou­s projects of the state government, the project cost of Purvanchal Expressway is around Rs 22,494.66 crore, including cost of land. The project has been divided into eight packages to ensure its timely completion.
