THE WILL TO LIVE AND MAKE IT BIG

Jane, a young songstress suffering from cancer, recently went on America’s Got Talent and performed an original song, “It’s Okay”, based on the story of her life. Praising her spirit, judge, actor Sofia Vergara said, “You’re more than okay!”

ON A RESCUE MISSION

The braveheart­s of Uttarakhan­d’s State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) came to the rescue of a pregnant woman, who was stuck on the Gangotri National Highway, which got blocked due to a landslide. SDRF Bhatwadi’s team and a local volunteer, Rajesh Rawat reached the spot and rescued the woman in about 20 minutes. Kudos to these heroes!

A TOKEN OF APPRECIATI­ON

Lidwina Joseph, a fifth-grader from Kerala, sent a handwritte­n letter with a drawing depicting a judge smashing the coronaviru­s with his gavel to the Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, expressing her gratitude for court’s orders regarding oxygen supply. Chief Justice Ramana wrote back to the little girl, giving her his best wishes.

OF GRIT AND DETERMINAT­ION

In a bid to raise awareness about ovarian cancer, Ursula Martin, a cancer survivor completed a 5,000 mile walk from Ukraine to Wales. Diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago, she completed the journey in three years. “It’s been a growth adventure; growth of strength and spirit. I know myself so much better. It’s been wonderful,” she said.

SALUTE TO THIS RAT HERO

An African giant pouched rat, Magawa, known for detecting mines in Cambodia has reached his retirement age. The seven-yearold rodent has sniffed out 39 landmines and 28 unexploded munitions in his career. It had also received the gold medal for life-saving devotion to duty by a UK veterinary charity in 2020.

A TALE OF A BRAVE SISTER

Zookeeper Melissa Laurie, 28, was swimming in a lagoon near Puerto Escondido, Mexico, with twin sister Georgia when the former was dragged under the water by a crocodile. Displaying presence of mind and courage, Georgia started punching it in the face repeatedly and saved her sister. The story of this fearless woman has gone viral.
