COVID-19 VAX WEBINAR TRIES TO RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS

A webinar titled ‘Covid-19 vaccination and awareness’ was organised by the Maulana Azad Memorial Academy, Lucknow, on Thursday to create awareness about Covid-19 vaccination.

In the webinar, prominent Shia religious scholar Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, Sunni religious scholar Imam Eidgah Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangimahali, senior journalist Akbar Ali Bilgrami, scientist Qamar Rehman and Major Dr Noor Jahan expressed their views to encourage people to take the vaccine. They elaborated upon the importance of the vaccine in tackling the epidemic and emphasised that in India both vaccines – Covishield and Covaxin – are effective and safe. People should take any of the two as available.

Citing examples from the past, it was said that there were many rumours about the polio vaccine in the beginning, which negatively affected the polio vaccination drive. The central and state governments along with WHO and UNICEF undertook polio vaccination on a war footing and cleared the misconceptions of the people, due to which India is polio free today. Lessons should be learnt from polio vaccinations and no attention should be given to baseless rumours on Covid-19 vaccines.
