CISH conducts online session with agri scientists, farmers
LUCKNOW: An online interactive session of agricultural scientists and farmers was organised by Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), Lucknow, on Tuesday. The session was on ‘climate-resilient varieties technologies and practices.’
Over 100 farmers from Malihabad participated in the programme. Scientists and farmers also attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s online address. PM virtually released 35 crops varieties, inaugurated National Institute on Biotic Stress Management (NIBSM), Raipur, interacted with farmers and bestowed green campus awards to agriculture universities.
Director CISH, Shailendra Rajan said, “Climate change has impacted flowering in different fruit crops. Farmers are unable to get winter guava crop for last one year owing to climate change.” He explained how to manage flowering in different fruit crops using climate-smart technologies and practices.
Acharya Chandra Bhushan Tiwari, an environmentalist popularly known among masses as ‘Ped Baba’, was the chief guest at the function.
RA Ram, principal scientist at CISH, shared his experience on traditional agriculture as a way forward to climate-resilient agriculture. Climate change severely impacts the dynamics of pests and diseases leading to enhancement in the cost of production.
Dr PK Shukla, Plant Pathologist of Institute, explained to the farmers’ climate-smart practices for pest control and disease management of horticultural crops.
Scientists encouraged farmers to shun monoculture and integrate diverse components of agriculture to make it self-reliant.
