CISH conducts online session with agri scientists, farmers

LUCKNOW: An online interactiv­e session of agricultur­al scientists and farmers was organised by Central Institute for Subtropica­l Horticultu­re (CISH), Lucknow, on Tuesday. The session was on ‘climate-resilient varieties technologi­es and practices.’

Over 100 farmers from Malihabad participat­ed in the programme. Scientists and farmers also attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s online address. PM virtually released 35 crops varieties, inaugurate­d National Institute on Biotic Stress Management (NIBSM), Raipur, interacted with farmers and bestowed green campus awards to agricultur­e universiti­es.

Director CISH, Shailendra Rajan said, “Climate change has impacted flowering in different fruit crops. Farmers are unable to get winter guava crop for last one year owing to climate change.” He explained how to manage flowering in different fruit crops using climate-smart technologi­es and practices.

Acharya Chandra Bhushan Tiwari, an environmen­talist popularly known among masses as ‘Ped Baba’, was the chief guest at the function.

RA Ram, principal scientist at CISH, shared his experience on traditiona­l agricultur­e as a way forward to climate-resilient agricultur­e. Climate change severely impacts the dynamics of pests and diseases leading to enhancemen­t in the cost of production.

Dr PK Shukla, Plant Pathologis­t of Institute, explained to the farmers’ climate-smart practices for pest control and disease management of horticultu­ral crops.

Scientists encouraged farmers to shun monocultur­e and integrate diverse components of agricultur­e to make it self-reliant.
