Investigation handed over to Gorakhpur crime banch, says ADG
GORAKHPUR: The post-mortem report on Wednesday night revealed the death of Kanpurbased realtor Manish Gupta was caused due to grave injuries on his body, including the skull, an eyelid and an arm.
Gupta, 36, died in hospital on late Monday night after getting injured during a police raid on the Gorakhpur hotel room he was staying in.
The post-mortem report reads: “Swelling of 4×5 cm in the middle of forehead, cut and hematoma in upper eyelid of right eye, marks of deep muscle injury on right arm above elbow and on right forearm.”
Gorakhpur SSP Vipin Tada had initially described the incident as an accident, saying Gupta died due to the injuries sustained after he slipped in the chaos during the police raid.
Additional director general of police (Gorakhpur) Akhil Kumar on Thursday inspected the hotel where Gupta was staying and said to reporters that the investigation has been handed over to the crime branch, Gorakhpur.
“The place of the incident has been inspected. The investigation has been handed over to the crime branch, Gorakhpur, and instruction has been given for a speedy probe. The investigating team will be strengthened and more investigators will be involved. Each and every point will be investigated as to how and why the raid occurred and how many policemen were involved,” he said.
“Medical reports and CCTV footage will be incorporated and statements of witnesses will be taken and also of those who have gone from here. Since the accusation is against the police, care will be taken to conduct the investigation in a more impartial manner,” he added.
When asked about the postmortem report and the reported injuries, he said, “The statement of the doctors who performed the post-mortem will be taken to know the details of injuries and to know in what situation the injuries occurred. Six policemen were suspended in connection with the incident and a case under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code (murder) was registered against them on Wednesday. Ramgarh Tal station house officer inspector JN Singh, subinspectors Akshay Mishra and Vijay Yadav and three unidentified policemen were the accused in the FIR. Inspector KK Rana, who was recently transferred from Gonda district, has taken charge of the Ramgarh Tal police station in place of suspended inspector JN Singh, SSP Vipin Tada said.
