Lucknow-Kanpur MEMU service to resume from November 21
THE INTERCITY TRAIN SERVICES WERE CALLED OFF LAST YEAR IN MARCH AFT,ER THE COVID-19 CRISIS WREAKED HAVOC RESULTING IN LOCKDOWN AND OTHER GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS.
LUCKNOW: Bringing much relief to the commuters, Northern Railway is all set to resume its MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) services between Lucknow and Kanpur from November 21 onwards.
Northern Railways (NR) officials said it would be perhaps the first unreserved train to start post lockdown.
“The first intercity train between Lucknow to Kanpur would start from November 21 onwards,” confirmed Jagtosh Shukla, senior divisional commercial manager (DCM), Lucknow Division.
However, unlike before, the Intercity (04297) would originate from Utretia and not from Charbagh railway station.
The intercity train services were called off last year in March after the Covid-19 crisis wreaked havoc resulting in the lockdown and other government restrictions.
The railways had also stopped issuing general tickets to cut down the passenger rush.
However, since things are returning to normal, NR has decided to resume some of its intercity train services to bring relief to the passengers and facilitate intercity commute. NR has forwarded the proposals to resume services of other passenger trains connecting Pratapgarh, Barabanki and other neighbouring districts to the board. Senior officials also said that the division has forwarded the proposal to resume other intercity trains to the railway board, however, it is yet to get the nod.
The officials said that NR was also going to re-introduce general (unreserved ticket) compartments in the trains.
The intercity train between Lucknow and Kanpur would originate from Utretia at 5:30 pm and would reach Charbagh Railway Station at 6:10 pm. The train would depart at 6:20 pm and would reach Kanpur at 8:30 pm.
