At IIM-L, they learnt how to fight back in adverse situations

-

LUCKNOW : For Juthika Das (29), who completed her MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow, the last two years have been the most traumatising times of her life. She suffered a double blow when both her parents died during Covid-19 times.

But the ability to deal with crisis situations in adversity that she learnt during her 2 years stay at IIML helped her to overcome the losses. With MBA diploma in hand, she has now emerged stronger as she leaves the portals of IIM-L after convocation held on Saturday evening. She is working with a finance company. In 2018, after completing her graduation from IIT Guwahati, Juthika worked for 3 years. However, she quit her job and moved back to Guwahati as her father was suffering from chronic Alzheimer.

“In a short span of time, I had to learn to balance my father’s medication, household chores and my family’s well-being,” said Juthika. She decided to invest her time into her lifelong passion for fashion. She came across a lead of high-quality weaves produced in local villages. “I met small artisans weaving at home, working day and night for peanuts. This motivated me to not only start my e-commerce venture, but also to try to help them,” shared Juthika. Meanwhile, her father died. “I had to halt my venture and rethink about my career. I decided to pursue MBA. I luckily

made it to IIM Lucknow.” The institute helped her shape her thought process and re-build her career. “I discovered my interest in finance and decided to complete my major in it. Just when I thought I was getting a hold on my life, I lost my mother to Covid-19. But I got immense support from the institute’s ecosystem,” said Juthika.

Similar was the case with Subrat Kumar Majhi, who joined IIM-L by clearing hurdles in his ways to chase his dreams.

Majhi who dreamt of joining the army, cleared the NDA written test but couldn’t get through the physical exam. He then decided to take the CDS exam and joined OUAT for B.Sc. Agriculture. However, he lost his left hand in an accident. Then along with his friend, he launched a home automation firm. In a few months, they bagged a 1000+ flat housing project. However, there was very little cash inflow in this project so together with another friend, he started 3 more companies. “We were doing well, but we lacked experience. Therefore, I decided to join IIM Lucknow to broaden my horizon. Over the last one year, I’ve learned a lot and grown as a person,” shared Subrat.
