‘Marked increase in admissions in LU-affiliated colleges in four districts’
LUCKNOW: The encouraging results of the implementation of the new national education policy (NEP)-2020 are visible as there has been a marked increase in the number of students seeking admission in the colleges of four districts affiliated to Lucknow University (LU) in the last session, LU authorities claimed in a press release.
Degree colleges of four new districts namely Hardoi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Rae Bareli and Sitapur were affiliated to Lucknow University from the session 2021-22 in which a total 94,392 students took admissions in various undergraduate level courses (BA, BSc and BCom). Till 2020-21 session, all these colleges were affiliated to Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur, and in that session a total of 84,875 students have taken admissions in the above-mentioned four districts.
“It is quite evident that after affiliation with Lucknow University, there was a total increase of 11.2% in admissions at the undergraduate level in these colleges of the four districts. This growth is a direct consequence of various efforts being made by Lucknow University in the field of higher education,” said spokesperson for the university Durgesh Srivastava. Also, this increase in the number of students is due to Lucknow University’s own brand and the initiatives taken under the new national education policy, says the press release issued by the university.
These students admitted 2021-22 onwards will get the direct benefit of the four-year course implemented first time in the country at Lucknow University under the new NEP.
The new curriculum focuses on the all-round development of the students with emphasis on skill development along with studies.
Under this, students will also be able to take advantage of internships, research projects and online courses. Flexible entry/exit opportunity has also been given in the course so that students who are not able to complete the entire course can also get certificate/diploma etc. Students who want to leave after completing three years of a four-year course will get UG degree and on completion of four-year course will be awarded UG with undergraduate research.
Two years postgraduate course will be offered to those with just UG degree and students who have completed UG with research will be able to complete PG degree course in just one year.
Vice-chancellor of Lucknow University prof Alok Kumar Rai has constituted a committee for it and has given instructions to complete all the preparations at the earliest.
