MP’s Vibha upsets Aairah in AITA Championship
LUCKNOW : Madhya Pradesh’s Vibha Khadka caused the only major upset on the second day of the AITA Boys and Girls Championship in girls under-16 singles category, outplaying local challenger and second seed Aairah in straight sets, at the LPG Tennis Academy here on Tuesday.
Unseeded Khadka, who struggled a bit in winning the first set at 6-4, was ruthless in the second, conceding just one game before wrapping the set and the match too at 6-1 to make it to the quarterfinals.
Top seed Shakti Mishra too struggled a bit before brushing aside Gujarat’s Trisha Thakkar 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 also to make it to the quarterfinals, whereas West Bengal’s Aleena Farid defeated UP’s Zufeesha Khan 6-0, 6-0 in other pre-quarterfinal match. Other girl from UP, Shatakshika Sahayak made it easy against compatriot Shambhavi Daksh 6-4, 6-1 to enter quarterfinals.
In the boys under-16 singles pre-quarters, second seed Saatvik Ashwin of Tamil Nadu defeated Siddhant Ganesh of
Maharashtra 6-3, 6-3. In other matches, Aditya Acharya beat Rohin Raj 6-3, 6-2, Sanidhya Dwivedi beat Divyansh 6-0, 6-1, Abhishek Subramanian beat Manas Gupta 6-2, 6-2 and Anshuman Acharya beat Arjun
Dixit 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

PUNIA WINS GOLD
Ace discus thrower and Uttar Pradesh’s daughter-in-law Seema Punia on Tuesday kept her date with gold medal at the 25th National Fed Cup Senior Athletics Championship, finishing top with a throw of 54.83 metre in Calicut. Punia achieved her best in the second attempt after throwing at 52.36 m in her first attempt. Her second best among total six throws came in the fourth attempt when she achieved 54.78m mark.
