-

LUCKNOW: The one district one product (ODOP) items will soon be available in Bahrain, where the state government has decided to organise an exhibition in November this year to help popularise ODOP products, with the help of Indian embassy in Bahrain. The state government had organised an ODOP exhibition in Dubai last year.

Navneet Sehgal, additional chief secretary, MSME, held a virtual meeting with the Indian ambassador in Bahrain, Pyush Srivastava, to discuss promotion of ODOP goods in the Gulf nation, on Tuesday. It was also decided that ODOP items will be displayed at the Indian Embassy in Bahrain.

“In November, an ODOP exhibition will be organised in Bahrain. Before this event, a delegation of officials, entrepreneurs and artisans will visit the Gulf nation to study requirements/likings of local people so that articles can be prepared according to their interest,” said Navneet Sehgal.

Sehgal also directed officials to send samples of ODOP goods and contact numbers to the Indian Embassy in Bahrain.

The Indian ambassador assured all help and also apprised Sehgal that UP was already exporting leather goods, handicraft and wood items, processed food and other products to Bahrain. The state government has also decided to rope in non-resident Indians for the promotion of ODOP items.

The state government has already signed an MoU with e-tailers Amazon and Flipkart for selling ODOP items. It had launched the ODOP scheme in January 2018 after identifying 75 products in as many districts that are indigenous. These products have made the respective districts famous. In the long list of 75 products are the world famous carpets of Bhadohi, brassware of Moradabad, locks of Aligarh, famous black pottery of Mirzapur, crockery of Khurja, leather of Agra and Kanpur among other products.
