Dedicated control room helping keep Sangam city clean
PRAYAGRAJ: A mobile phone rings suddenly on the Prayagraj Nagar Nigam (PNN) campus located in the heart of Civil Lines here. A staffer promptly answers the call and notes down the complaint in a register. Immediately, a vehicle of the municipal corporation is dispatched to clear uncollected garbage from a site in Allahpur.
Within half-an-hour, the garbage is removed and sent to a collection station. From there, it will eventually end up at Baswar solid waste management plant of the district. Daily, dozens of calls are received and acted upon.
All this activity is courtesy a control room with the dedicated numbers 8303701317 and 05322427204. It functions on the PNN campus from 5am to 9 pm and plays a vital role in the fight to keep the Sangam city clean. It is also monitoring the cleaning activities of various localities and streets of the city daily.
A similar helpline toll free number 1920 is also functional at the Integrated Control and Command Centre of Prayagraj Smart City. Here, too, calls about poor civic issues are received and redressed, said Prayagraj municipal corporation commissioner Ravi Ranjan.
The entire set- up for collecting garbage and getting it processed at the solid waste management plant has been further streamlined following a detailed missive dated April 4, 2022 for effective monitoring of civic services and the cleanliness mechanism. The missive was sent to all municipal corporation commissioners and the district magistrates.
In response to the instructions, a micro-plan has been designed and implemented, detailing the beat plan for sanitation workers for cleaning streets, lanes and by-lanes of the city. Weekly cleaning of drains and its confirmation from locals is also being undertaken. Similarly, daily cleaning of localities and main streets from 5am to 8am is also taking place in all wards, said Ravi Ranjan.
“Every morning, all officers, including municipal commissioner, inspect the field operations between 5am to 8am and ensure effective outcomes are achieved,” said Ranjan.
“We already have an effective door-to-door collection of garbage system in the city. Dry and wet waste is duly segregated. For the collection of garbage, the route plan of vehicles, too, has been implemented. Garbage vulnerable points have been identified. Special attention is being paid to cleaning these areas,” the Prayagraj municipal commissioner said.
