Irrespective of whether or not I become CM or PM in future, in the interest of the weaker and deprived sections, I will never become President of the country MAYAWATI, BSP chief

LUCKNOW: BSP president Mayawati on Friday mocked Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav’s assertion that he wanted her to become the prime minister.

She wondered how someone who could not fulfil his own dream of becoming chief minister, realise the aspirations of others.

Reacting to Yadav’s statement that he wanted her to become the prime minister and that the SP had forged an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls for this, Mayawati, in a tweet in Hindi, said, “When the SP chief could not fulfil his own dream of becoming chief minister (of Uttar Pradesh) even after securing the votes of Muslims and Yadavs and forming an alliance with several parties, how can he fulfil the dream of others to become prime minister.”

In a related tweet, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister wondered how a party that managed to win only five seats in Uttar Pradesh in the last Lok Sabha polls despite stitching up an alliance with the BSP, make her the prime minister.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, even after an alliance with the BSP, the SP bagged merely five seats.

Then how come he could make the Bahujan Samaj Party chief Prime Minister of the country? He should stop making such childish statements, she said.

“Irrespective of whether or not I become CM or PM in future, in the interest of the weaker and deprived sections, I will never become President of the country. The dream of SP chief to become chief minister of UP cannot be fulfilled,” she said.

On Wednesday, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had said in Mainpuri that the BSP “voted for the BJP but it remains to be seen if the ruling party would make her (Mayawati) the President”.

Attacking the Samajwadi Party, the BSP chief had said, “Its (SP’s) leaders have spread rumours that I am vying for the President’s post. The Samajwadi Party is dreaming of making me the President so that their party chief’s path to become chief minister of UP is clear. The SP should stop dreaming of forming government or making me the President.”
