Loreto@150: ‘Aladdin and the Magic Lamp’ enthrals viewers
LUCKNOW : To celebrate its sesquicentennial year in Lucknow, Loreto Convent staged a musical play ‘Aladdin and the Magic Lamp’ on Saturday. The event was attended by the District Magistrate Surya Pal Gangwar and guest of honour Father Donald D’Souza.
The evening began by invoking God’s blessings and the lighting of the lamp to spread radiance of knowledge being imparted by the renowned Institution for the past 150 years. By rubbing the magic lamp, the district magistrate let the genie out, and the play commenced with enthusiastic students performing with zest.
The outstation Loreto nuns, priests, principals of schools of Lucknow and parents of students were present to witness the play and share the enthusiasm of students who performed with elan.
The audience watched with interest as Aladdin flew away with the beautiful Princess Jasmine on the magic carpet to a blissful future.
The play commenced with the Peddler Dance performed by the ebullient students of Classes 6 and 7.
This was followed by the Genie Dance which introduced us to the jester of the play, the exuberant and shape-shifting Genie with astounding cosmic powers.
The play progressed with the glamorous entry of the protagonist – Aladdin, under the guise of the pretentious Prince Ali. Next came the students of Class 12 who left the audience spellbound with their Speechless Dance.
The students of Class 11 mesmerized the audience with their delightful performance on the song ‘A Whole New World’. This portrayal of the various cultures and folk dances of the world was appreciated by all.
