UP’s Divyansh in mini nationals final

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh’s Divyansh Singh is on the verge of scripting a new chapter in badminton as the young shuttler on Wednesday stormed into the final of the boy’s under-11 at the Mini National Badminton Championsh­ip, defeating Uttrakhand’s Aditya Negi in straight games at Noida.

A trainee of Anoop Dubey at Ayodhya, Divyansh proved too good for his rival, winning the match by 21-8, 21-14.

The young shuttlers was right on target, taking 3-0 lead. Negi on the other hand tried his best to catch up with the pace of Divyansh but to no avail.

In the second game, Negi though came up with some fine display at the net, Divyansh proved too god at the end, winning the game and the match with a good seven points margin.

Now on Thursday, he plays to Assam’s Anikesh Dutta, who defeated Tanmay Verma of Uttrakhand 21-17, 16-21, 21-13 in another semi-final.

The girl’s under-11 final will be played between Hamsini Chandram of Telangana and Subhrasree Smita Baruwati of Assam. Chandram defeated Andhra Pradesh’s Lakshmi Sai Aaradhya Rachapudi 21-15, 21-19 in the first semi-final, whereas Baruwati outplayed Kerala’s Alexander Alexia Elsa 21-16, 21-10.

Signal Towers, Mechanical Mavericks and Commercial Challenger­s, earned full points by winning their respective matches on the third day of the Inter Department­al Futsal Tournament of NER here on Wednesday.

Commercial Challenger­s defeated Electrical Thunderbol­ts 5-0, Signal Towers defeated Electrical Thunderbol­ts 2-0 and Mechanical Mavericks beat Operating Avengers 1-0.

Earlier, Operating Avengers got a walkover as Account Wizards could not be present to play in the field.
