Five RMLNLU students suspended from hostel for ragging

-

LUCKNOW: Five third year students of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University (RMLNLU) were suspended from hostel and barred from using other university facilities for six months.

The action followed over their alleged involvement in a ragging incident in July and August. A financial penalty of Rs 15,000 has already been levied on these students after the students (freshers) who were subjected to ragging registered a complaint with the UGC’s antiragging helpline centre.

“Five university students were found guilty in a subsequent probe carried out by the university’s anti-ragging squad,” chief proctor KA Pandey, said on Monday.

Despite being banned from hostel and using other facilities, the guilty students have however been allowed to attend classes and use library facility.

In a separate incident that took place on October 20, a video of a student being assaulted at RMLNLU, Lucknow went viral on social media. In this video, final year students were attacked by some junior students. In that case too, eight students were suspended from hostel for 6 months and a financial penalty levied on them.

After examining the video footage of the assault that reportedly took place at 6 am on October 20, the proctorial board ordered an inquiry in which some students were found guilty of assaulting a student of IX semester. The accused students were ordered to pay financial penalty, barred from visiting the hostel till April 6, 2023 though they were allowed permission to attend classes and use library from 10 am to 5 pm on all working days.
