‘No one saw armyman being pushed by TTE or anybody else’
The armyman, who died of septicaemia during treatment on Wednesday after his legs were crushed under the train last week, was travelling in Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (20503) without a ticket. He was removed from the train by ticket inspectors at the Bareilly station, but later attempted to board the moving train again and fell on to the tracks in the process,” stated the Indian Railways while releasing a CCTV footage of the incident and a press note in a clarification over it.
According to earlier reports, Army rifleman Sonu Kumar Singh, 31, had lost his legs after allegedly being pushed by a TTE from a moving train after a fight. Authorities said the matter was being investigated by the Railways administration.
“Statements of witnesses at the station were recorded.
Singh was not seen by anyone being pushed by the TTE or by anybody else. When train number 20503 departed from platform No 2 of Bareilly station and picked up speed, Singh attempted to board the moving train but his foot slipped and he fell under the train, according to the CCTV footage of the incident,” said Deepak Kumar, chief public relations officer, Northern Railway.
Singh succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bareilly. “On the complaint of Army subedar Harinder Kumar Singh, an FIR under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) was lodged against the accused TTE at Bareilly GRP station, which was later altered to Section 304A (culpable homicide),” said Devi Dayal, deputy superintendent of GRP, Moradabad division.
Sonu Singh underwent three surgeries at the military hospital, but his damaged legs had to be amputated on Monday. He remained unconscious throughout the treatment and breathed his last on Wednesday evening. After the post-mortem, the body was taken to his native village in Ballia on Thursday.
