KANPUR: Seeking to represent the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat for the fourth time after an over decade-long gap, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav held a 16-km-long road show on the last day of campaigning on Saturday even as his uncle and the party’s national general secretary Shivpal Yadav sought votes for the nephew in various neighbourhoods of the constituency.

Kannauj goes to polls in the fourth phase May 13.

Akhilesh’s road show commenced from Bidhuna in Auraiya and concluded at Erwa Katra after four hours.

During the event, he expressed concern over the future of the upcoming generation, and said this election was for saving the country’s future.

He highlighted contrasting ideologies, stating that on one side are those who aim to dismantle the Constitution, while on the other are the allies of the INDIA bloc who strive to preserve it.

Yadav said this is the first election where it seems like the general public is fighting the polls against the BJP.

There will be a bigger victory in Kannauj than in Mainpuri, he said. “That’s why the Prime Minister didn’t visit Kannauj or Auraiya,” he said.

He reiterated that one engine is missing from the hoardings of the double-engine government.

Referring to the BJP candidates from Kannauj and Etawah as condemned engines that were going to be wiped out, he said there’s no one whom these candidates haven’t insulted.

He mentioned that the BJP

government had caused unemployment and inflation, besides committing numerous injustices. There’s no community left that they haven’t insulted, he said.

Akhilesh Yadav had made his

electoral debut in Kannauj in the year 2000 when he won a Lok Sabha by-election from the constituency. He retained the seat in 2004 and 2009 but vacated it in 2012 on being sworn in as the Uttar Pradesh chief minister.
