NEWDELHI: Incidents of rubber and plastic waste burning in Bawana and Narela industrial areas have gone down by nearly 70%, Bhure Lal, chairman of the Supreme Court-appointed body EPCA, said on Monday.

“Constant vigil and anti-pollution measures such as night patrols have brought down incidents of open dumping and burning of rubber and plastic waste over the past two months. The number of calls received by the local fire brigade station has gone down,” said Lal, after a visit to the areas on Monday.

The two areas figured in the list of pollution hotspots of Delhi, as rubber and plastic waste were dumped on vacant plots and set on fire, which emitted toxic fumes. HT had highlighted the issue on October 30 after a visit.
