The magic of belief

- S C Khungar

The Khereshwar temple in Shivrajpur near Kanpur is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Drona ‘putra’ Ashwathama comes here every night to worship the deity and offers ‘Ganga jal’ on the Shivling which is found wet in the morning.

Ashwathama was born in Shivrajpur; therefore, many claim they have seen Ashwathama who keeps roaming around to serve the curse as wanted by Lord Krishna. Can a 5000-year-old man be physically alive to go to the temple daily? To solve the mystery, a media team recently visited this place and spent a night in the temple.

Before closing the door in the night, cameras were fixed, the Shivling was covered with a quilt, and the key was handed over to the media group. Next morning, when the door was opened, everything was found intact. The cameras did not catch any figure but a little portion of the quilt was found wet. Why, people asked, the quilt was found wet?

Our subconscious mind works on the principle of belief. Whatever is impressed on it produces its effect. If four persons tell a healthy man that he looks very ill, the latter will soon become unwell if his mind has accepted it. An astrologer told a man that he would die on the first Sunday of next month. He started telling all members of his family and worked out his will. This powerful prediction entered into his mind because he accepted it completely. He died as predicted not knowing that he was the cause of his own death. Like tragedies, miracles do happen at various shrines throughout the world if a man goes there with full faith and belief. The thought (wish) fused with feeling becomes a subjective faith and the wish of the man is fulfilled. The belief is a thought in the conscious mind, and when it accepts fully that Ashwathama is alive, it becomes subconscious or subjective faith and the man starts feeling the reality. As it is said, you see what you wish to see.
