PRTC pensioners block road to press their demands
PATIALA: The pensioners of Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC), under the aegis of PRTC Retired Workers’ Association, staged a protest and blocked road near the bus stand in Patiala on Tuesday.
The traffic came to a standstill due to the blockade which resulted in traffic jam near bus stand. The authorities diverted the traffic to different routes to avoid chaos like the city witnessed when the contractual employees of PRTC staged a protest recently.
PENSION OF RETIRED EMPLOYEES HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED FOR TWO MONTHS; THE ARREARS ARE DUE SINCE 2006
The protesters raised slogans against the PRTC management and handed over a memorandum regarding their demands to SDM Patiala Gurpal Singh Chahal.
Binder Singh, president of the association, said the pensions of retired employees have not been released for the past two months while the PRTC management has failed to pay their arrears since 2006.
He added that their pensions were not released on time while their dues, including gratuity and GPF amount, have not been cleared for the past several years.
“The management is not at all serious about the pension of the ex-employees. Due to vested interests, the focus of the general managers has got diverted to some unproductive things”, he said.
The union also demanded that PRTC should stop recruiting employees through outsourcing and adopt regular recruitment process.
