An illicit relationship of Mohan Lal (40), a personal assistant to the Tohana SDM, with a woman cost him dear. After he lost his wife Kamlesh (35), two sons Bhavuk (8) and Jigar (2), Mohan Lal landed in jail on Tuesday along with his paramour, Nirmala alias Urmila, under charges of abetment of suicide (Section 306 of the IPC).

On May 7 night, Mohan Lal had allegedly thrashed his wife Kamlesh when she objected to his relationship with another woman.

The next day she along with her two sons left the home.

Mohan Lal got a police complaint registered about his “missing” wife and sons. On May 11, body of Bhavuk was recovered from a canal in Punjab and that of Kamlesh was found in a canal near Ratia on May 12. Jigar’s body is yet to be recovered.

When the bodies were brought to Tohana on May 13, Kamlesh’s

brother Rup Chand, a former councillor, lodged a complaint against Mohan Lal and held him responsible for three deaths.

Residents of Tohana held a protest and blocked the road demanding arrest of Mohan Lal and Nirmala alias Urmila.

The police registered a case under Section 306 and arrested the two on Tuesday and produced them in the court, which sent them to judicial custody.

Rup Chand said, “My sister had time and again asked Mohan Lal to stop going to Nirmala but he did not mend his ways. He beat up my sister on May 7 and the next day she left with her sons. He and his girlfriend are responsible for three deaths.”
