4 killed as water tank collapses in Gurgaon

-

Four construction workers were killed and one injured when a concrete water tanker collapsed on them near Sector 90, on Tuesday night.

The incident took place at a construction plant in Kankrola, a village near Sector 90.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Joshim, Parmod Kumar, Sarwan Singh and Gannaur Pandit — all of whom hailed from West Bengal.

One critically injured labourer is still admitted at a private hospital, while six other labourers injured in the incident have been discharged.

As the 12-foot tall tank — with a capacity of 11,000 gallons of water — collapsed, the power supply in the area too took a hit.

Residents had to endure several hours of darkness before power supply resumed. The police said that the tank appeared to have been almost empty when it collapsed.

“The incident took place in the night, when the workers had completed their shifts and were washing up. They were using the taps connected to the tank. Even though the company had provided them accommodation to sleep, many of them were asleep near the tank,” said Vivek Sharma, joint commissioner (Crime). He added, “The incident took place suddenly. Three men died on the spot, while one man succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.”

A case has been registered at the Kherki Daula police station, against the management of the plant.
