Patiala police solve two blind murder cases, arrest 6 persons

PATIALA: The Patiala police have solved two blind murder cases of Patran sub division by arresting six people.

In the first incident, a woman had hired contract killers to eliminate her nephew so that her son could get a major share of his grandfathe­r’s property.

In a press conference, SSP Hardial Singh Mann said, “The police, with the help of sniffer dogs and mobile call records, had solved the murder case of Rinku, a resident of Dhabi Gujran village, Patran.”

He said police had arrested Wajir Singh, Mona Ram, Bikram Singh, Rajesh and Karamjit Kaur, Rinku’s aunt.

The SSP said that on August 31, Atma Ram informed police that the dead body of his nephew Rinku was found near the Dhabi Gujaran barrier.

Ram which Rinku came to know of. Kaur’s father-in-law also helped Rinku and his family financiall­y, angered by which, she decided to get Rinku killed. She hatched a plan with Wajir Singh and offered him ` 2 lakh for murdering her nephew.

On the intervenin­g night of August 30 and 31, Singh along with other accused killed Rinku with a sharp weapon and left his body near the barrier.

Another case, which initially looked like an electrocut­ion accident, was proven to be a woman’s murder by her husband.

The SSP said police had arrested Avtar Singh, a resident of Shutrana, for killing his wife Lakhwinder Kaur by giving her electric shocks.

On September 2, Sukhwinder Singh infor med police that his sister Lakhwinder Kaur, aged 55 years, had died due t o a n e l e c t r i c s h o ck a n d they had cremated her, believing his brother- in- law’s version regarding the cause of her death.

Later, Sukhwinder came to know that Kaur was killed by her husband.

Investigat­ions revealed that Avtar Singh had a criminal background. He had a marital dispute with his wife and used to beat her on a regular basis.

On August 30, the couple was at home when he gave Kaur an electric shock because of which she died. The accused has been arrested and further investigat­ion is on, said the SSP.
