‘ Donations won’t heal my raped girl’s scars, but they will help’
RANCHI/ JAMSHEDPUR: T he world is proving to be a bittersweet place for the nineyearold girl torn apart by a 42-year-old rapist two months ago.
Forty-eight hours after HT told the world about a father who, unable to afford a cycle, walks 4 km daily with his daughter hiked on his shoulders to a health centre to dress her rape wounds, the do- gooders topped the victim’s bank account with around ` 10 lakh.
On being told about the donation pouring into the bank account opened by HT in the girl’s name, Munda said: “The money will give a new life to my daughter though it cannot remove the scars,” he said, while his wife stood by
his side at the hospital. The couple doesn’t want to return to the village with their daughter after treatment.
“We want her to get good education in any residential school away from the prowling eyes of demons like Surendra Sardar ( the rapist), who is now in jail,” the father said. Scores of people from around the world, seething with anger at the devilish rapist, wrote and
called up HT asking how they can help. Almost all promised, and delivered, money. The administration revived a frozen bank account of the father and deposited Rs 1 lakh as ordered by the high court.
More than the money, what stood out was the concern people showed to the parents and the girl who underwent colectomy to remove her intestine punctured by the rapist. Among the offers of help, Medanta Hospital promised free treatment. They took her to Ranchi hospital. Over two days, she underwent multiple tests and scans, which suggested further surgery.
