A Himalayan lesson: Remain humble and kind

A recent act of going footloose in the mighty Himalayas came as a fresh reminder of how insignificant we are as individuals in this vast universe.

We lose our standing all the more if we forget that we have a role to play in bringing about changes in the universal system for peace and happiness of all living beings.

The Himalayas remind one that in order to make this life meaningful, one has to go out of the way to be humane and supportive of others during their difficult times. And that we are blessed with the ability of the highest order to be used for the benefit of all other sentient beings.

As German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche says, well-meaning, helpful, goodnatured attitudes of mind have not come to be honoured on account of their usefulness, but because they are states of richer souls that are capable of bestowing and have their value in the feeling of the plenitude of life. The whisperings of the Himalayas inspire you and you get to remind yourself that it is never too late to start a fresh journey that will go to make life on this planet a shade better every day. Love and kindness towards others go a long way in making such a world possible.

We have to make it a point that we are always helpful and caring. That is why Chinese philosopher Confucius says, “When you see a good person, think of becoming like her/ him. When you see someone not so good, reflect on your own weak points.”

That is so because only by seeing others in you, you can be kind and helpful. After all, when you identify yourself with others, you have to be kind.
